چکیده

This paper explores whether auditory and proprioceptive information can be used to bootstrap learning about how objects interact with water. Our results demonstrate that a robot can categorize objects into “containers” and “noncontainers” based on how the objects sound like and feel like when water is flowing onto them. Using a behavior–grounded approach, the robot performed five different exploratory behaviors on the objects and captured auditory and proprioceptive data as the behaviors changed the spatial configuration between the objects and the water stream. Using this data, the robot first learned perceptual outcome classes for each behavior–modality combination. Functionally meaningful object categories were then formed based on the frequency with which different outcome classes occurred with each object.

Categorization of Components of Learning Outcomes for University Students (Grounded Theory)

Introduction: Although learning outcomes have a theoretical basis, the components of learning outcomes in different studies have been considered differently. The purpose of this article is to explain the concept and determine the constituent components of learning outcomes for the undergraduate Students. Methods: This study is grounded Theory. Researchers to study with more than 150 sources inc...

The emergence of links between lexical acquisition and object categorization: a computational study

Language is about symbols, and those symbols must be grounded in the physical world. Children learn to associate language with sensorimotor experiences during their development. In light of this, we first provide a computational account of how words are mapped to their perceptually grounded meanings. Moreover, the main part of this work proposes and implements a computational model of how word ...

IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON AUTONOMOUS MENTAL DEVELOPMENT A Behavior–Grounded Approach to Forming Object Categories: Separating Containers from Non-Containers

This paper introduces a framework that allows a robot to form a single behavior–grounded object categorization after it uses multiple exploratory behaviors to interact with objects and multiple sensory modalities to detect the outcomes that each behavior produces. Our robot observed acoustic and visual outcomes from 6 different exploratory behaviors performed on 20 objects (containers and non-c...

Interactive Categorization of Containers and Non-Containers by Unifying Categorizations Derived from Multiple Exploratory Behaviors

The ability to form object categories is an important milestone in human infant development (Cohen 2003). We propose a framework that allows a robot to form a unified object categorization from several interactions with objects. This framework is consistent with the principle that robot learning should be ultimately grounded in the robot’s perceptual and behavioral repertoire (Stoytchev 2009). ...

Shaking eases Object Category Acquisition: Experiments with a Robot Arm

This paper introduces a synthetic study which investigates the role of shaking behavior in object category acquisition. By shaking objects with several holding positions and obtaining the amplitude spectrums of the auditory signal, a robot with poor control ability can acquire object categories such as rigid objects, paper materials, and PET bottles with water. The result indicates the possibli...
